CAUCASUS 16 DAYS OF ACTIVISMAGAINST GENDER VIOLENCE 2001Monday
10th September 2001, Baku, Azerbaijan. For the past two years WomenAid International has supported the establishment and development of the coordination of the 16 days of Activism Against Gender Violence in the Caucasus. Through the initiative of the regional NGO, WomenAid International-Caucasus, and other NGO colleagues in Georgia, NGO’s in Azerbaijan, submitted a request for funding to the OSI for the development of the 16 days of Activism Against Gender Violence 2001. These applications were successful, and, with additional funding from WomenAid International, the Caucasus coordination of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence is now being implemented. Colleagues from the Georgian 16 Days Coordination Committee visited Azerbaijan with representative of WomenAid International-Caucasus to share the planning mechanisms of the first national coordination of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence campaign in the world. The Georgia planning strategy was extremely successful and involved over 70 non-governmental organisations, government ministries, UN agencies and international NGOs who elaborated and signed a Joint Declaration Against Gender Violence.
