WomenAid
has received a request for a new mammography machine from the Mater Dei
Hospital built in 1952 in Matebeleland, Zimbabwe.
The hospital has the only mammography machine in the west of the
country but as the machine is over 25 years old the images obtained are no
longer of any diagnostic value.
South Africa is the nearest place for a mammography for those women
who can afford to travel there but for those who are poor there is no
possibility of breast screening.
Breast
cancer is such a prevalent cancer and is so easily treated in the early
stages it is vital that all women can be offered this service.
The Mater Dei Hospital needs a new mammography machine with biopsy
facilities and will provide screening services to all women at risk.
FUNDS
SOUGHT: £70,0000.
