Child Rights & Well-being Centre The main goals and objectives of the WomenAid Child Rights and Well-being Centre [CRWC] is the protection and development of child rights in Georgia and the Caucasus, strengthening and assisting the development of non-governmental organisations working in the field of children's rights and well-being by encouraging coordination, collaboration and exchange of knowledge between NGO's, and government departments; supporting the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child; raising public awareness on the situation of children's rights in Georgia; and increasing the opportunities for networking between NGO's, government and interested parties from all regions of Georgia and the Caucasus. To assist in the dissemination of information on national and international child rights and well-being issues the Centre also facilitates the distribution of the English and Russian electronic newsletter Child Focus eDialogue and a Child Focus eCalendar published by WomenAid International. A Child Rights National Network Platform held in September
2000, in the Mtatsminda Business Center, Tbilisi, was chaired by
the Public Defender, Mrs. Nana Devdariani. The aim of the
meeting was to provide an opportunity for both a ‘Report
Back’ and a ‘Follow Up’ on the Observations and
Recommendations of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child
to the Government of Georgia in response to the submission of
the Georgian National Report.
The Georgian delegation, headed by Mrs. Rusudan Beridze,
Deputy Secretary of the National Security Council on Human
Rights Issues, included Mr. Tamaz Tatishvili, Deputy-Minister of
Education, shared perspectives and exchanged views regarding
future plans with representatives of government departments,
UNICEF and non-governmental organisations, actively involved in
the promotion of child rights and the protection of children. |
